The exclusive wood floor finishes by WOCA
Exclusive Wood Floor Oils And Lacquers By WOCA
WOCA is a well-known and respected manufacturer of wood floor care products with a heavy focus on wood oils. It has been hinted for some time that the Danish are working on something really big — a project supposed to offer unmatched quality when it comes to caring for and protecting wooden floors. It has finally arrived, and the hype is real!
What Is No1?
Advertised as 'The world's most exclusive wood care system!', No1 is a series of wood care products designed to be genuinely revolutionary in the floor maintenance world, rather than just another incremental update to the existing range. The two most prominent products in the line are the No1 Wood Floor Oil and the No1 Wood Floor Lacquer. According to WOCA, this range uses the latest available technology to deliver a neutral, matte finish that offers:
Genuinely easy application, even for less experienced hands
Superior durability compared with the standard oil and lacquer ranges
A lacquer with a true self-matting effect, rather than a flat additive fighting against a naturally glossy base
A high "green" profile, with low solvent content and reduced environmental impact
A distinctive, soft-feel underfoot finish unlike a typical hard lacquer surface
What Makes No1 Oil Special?
The technology behind No1 Wood Floor Oil is genuinely something not seen before in this category, and it's called Hyper Cross Linking. There's no need to get into the full chemistry here, but the short version is this: cross-linking is what happens when the individual molecules in an oil or resin bond together into a denser, more interconnected structure as the finish cures, rather than simply drying as loosely packed separate molecules. A conventional oil has a relatively low degree of cross-linking, which is part of why it needs reapplying so regularly. Push that cross-link density significantly higher, as WOCA has done here, and the resulting film becomes considerably tougher, more water-resistant, and more resistant to everyday wear, all while still soaking properly into the wood's pores and fibres the way a genuine penetrating oil should — rather than turning into something that behaves more like a thin surface film.
Wood naturally swells as it absorbs moisture and shrinks again as it dries out — a cycle that, over years, is part of what eventually wears a floor's finish down and can contribute to gaps and movement between boards. No1 limits that shrinkage more effectively than a standard oil, hardens the surface layer of the timber more thoroughly, and offers genuinely increased water repellence as a result. On top of that, the solvent content is low and the odour during application is minimal, which matters considerably if you're refinishing an occupied room rather than an empty renovation site. It works across all wood species, the oil itself dries crystal clear rather than adding an unwanted tint, and the new raw material behind it is what allows WOCA to claim it as the strongest single-component oil available today — "single-component" meaning it's ready to use straight from the tin, with no separate hardener to measure and mix in before application, unlike a two-component (2K) product.
Is The WOCA No1 Lacquer Truly No1?
This product is supposed to combine the very best this brand has to offer, and given that WOCA brings more than 40 years of experience in the business to the table, that's genuinely not a small claim to live up to. Many people prefer lacquers over oils specifically because lacquers offer better raw durability — but that preference has traditionally come with a downside. A lot of people dislike the slightly "plastic" look a standard polyurethane lacquer gives to wood, that glossy, faintly artificial sheen that can make a beautiful timber floor look more like a laminate than a genuine hardwood surface. No1 Lacquer is supposed to solve exactly this: a soft-feel, near-invisible look, and a self-matting effect not previously seen in this category, aiming to eliminate that plastic appearance for good while still keeping lacquer's core durability advantage intact.
Technically, it's a two-component (2K) polyurethane product — meaning a separate hardener is mixed into the base resin shortly before application, triggering a much more thorough curing reaction than a single-component finish can achieve on its own. Two-component polyurethanes are, without much argument, among the most durable finishes available on the market today, which is exactly why they're the usual choice for demanding commercial floors as well as high-end residential projects. The trade-off with any 2K system is a limited working time once the two parts are combined — known as its pot life — so proper preparation and correct mixing ratios genuinely matter more here than with a simpler, single-component lacquer, and it's a product better suited to an experienced applicator than a first-time DIYer.
WOCA has certainly put a lot of effort into promoting this new series, and it's without doubt an ambitious project. If it delivers on its claims, it stands to genuinely shift expectations across the floor care and maintenance industry — narrowing the long-standing gap between the natural look people want and the hard-wearing protection they need, rather than forcing a compromise between the two.
Where WOCA's Interior Oil Range Stands Today
WOCA's interior oil lineup has naturally continued to develop in the years since No1 first launched, and the underlying cross-linking approach behind it has fed into the products that now sit at the top of WOCA's current range — including Diamond Oil Active, aimed at higher-traffic residential and commercial floors, and Master Color Oil, the brand's core residential colour oil. If you want to see exactly what WOCA currently offers and how the modern range is positioned, their interior wood oil finishing collection is worth a look. For anyone considering any of these oils for a project here, our own floor sanding service can prepare a floor properly for whichever finish you eventually choose, and our guide to re-oiling wooden floors covers how ongoing maintenance works once an oil finish like this is on your floor.
